Mud Hopper

Mud hopper is a jet mud mixer designed using the venturi principle, it’s also known as Venturi jet mud mixer, main components including nozzle, mixing chamber, venturi tube, feeding hopper, butterfly valve, sand pump or shear pump. Mud hopper is usually applied to oil drilling solid control mixing jet, trenchless mud mixing jet and so on. HYSL mud hopper is used to control drilling fluids and change density, viscosity and water loss of drilling fluids, it is one of special oilfield equipments for weighting drilling fluids. Mud hopper is equipped with sand pumps and pipelines to form a jet slurry mixing device.

Working principle

After the liquid is sprayed from the nozzle, it passes through the mixing chamber and enters the shearing tube, material is added to the mixing chamber from the mud hopper and then enters the shearing tube under the driving of liquid flow from nozzle, and is dispersed and mixed in the process. Liquid flows out of the sheer tube and enters the mud circulation tank.

A shear tube is a hollow tube that gradually expands according to a certain curved surface. Its main function is to increase the sheer force of liquid in a tube so that material can be better dispersed and the pressure of mixed liquid will enter the mud circulation tank.

The shear tube actually uses the Bernoulli effect "fast flow, low pressure; slow flow, high pressure". Because the liquid in the mixing chamber is ejected from the nozzle at a high speed, pressure is low at this time; after liquid enters the shear tube, the cross-section gradually becomes larger and the speed becomes smaller, so the pressure rises.
